Committee and Work Group Descriptions
Membership in the first four work groups listed below is not restricted to members of the Advisory Council but is open to all interested members of the community.

HEALTH assesses current and proposed health-related programs and systems for older adults, including physical health, mental health and long term care. Advocates for quality, suitability, affordability and accessibility. Oversees the Alzheimer's/Dementia Work Group.

HOUSING supports activities directed toward adequate and affordable housing for seniors, through education of local officials and the community and through legislation.

LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY studies state and federal proposed legislation and policies affecting older adults. Works to raise awareness through presentations, forums and surveys. Advocates for and against proposed bills and policies.

TRANSPORTATION concerns itself with issues relating to the transportation needs of the County's older adults. Works to affect transit policy and maintains contact with the various transportation service providers, seeking coordination, accessibility, and affordability of transit services.

The following Committees are by appointment only. Members must also be members of the Advisory Council on Aging:

Bylaws proposes amendments that reflect the Council's changing goals and objectives.

Executive recommends agenda for Advisory Council meetings.

Membership recruits and selects members-at-large for the Advisory Council. Also serves as the Nominating Committee for election of Council officers.

Planning works with staff to develop the Area Plan for programs and services.

Publicity develops material that informs the community of the Council activities, concerns, goals and objectives.
