ELIGIBILITY WORKER II


Salary: $34,488.00 - $41,916.00 annually

The Employment and Human Services Department of Contra Costa County is accepting applications on a continuous basis for the position of Eligibility Worker II. Most Eligibility Workers are assigned to work in Employment and Human Services offices located in Richmond, Hercules, Martinez,or Antioch.

Eligibility Worker II is a journey-level class responsible for the investigation and determination of initial and continuing eligibility of applicants for public assistance and medical-care programs. This entails conducting interviews to obtain relevant information and ensuring applications are accurate and complete. Additionally, Eligibility Worker II's refer applicants who need social services to the appropriate staff member and maintain client records.

The department is also actively seeking qualified applicants with foreign language skills in Spanish, Laotian, and Vietnamese to apply. Applicants successfully passing the County Language Fluency Examination may receive an $80.00 monthly differential, if language proficiency is utilized. APPLICANTS MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE AS AN ELIGIBILITY WORKER IN A CALIFORNIA COUNTY WELFARE DEPARTMENT. Please refer to the minimum qualifications below as they relate to required experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
License Required: Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Education: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate. Experience: Either (1) six months of full-time experience (or the equivalent of full-time experience) as an Eligibility Worker I in Contra Costa County; or (2) one year of full-time experience (or the equivalent of full-time experience) in public assistance eligibility determination in a California County Welfare Department. Qualifying experience must have included retrospective and prospective budgeting in both food stamps and categorical assistance programs; determination of mandatory assistance unit; and either entry of data onto an input form or direct entry of data into a computer-based system.
